Directions

By car

The theatres can only be accessed via Parkway (ring road). Look for the turning into Rainsford Road, by the Methodist church and County Hotel. Look for the brown signs around Chelmsford directing you to the theatres.

 

By rail

The theatres are two minutes walk from Chelmsford mainline railway station. Turn right under the railway bridge and walk down Duke Street keeping the bus station on your left. Fairfield Road is the next road on the left. www.greateranglia.co.uk

 

By bus

The theatres are located behind the main bus terminus in Chelmsford. www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/essex

 

Car parking

The theatres are located on Fairfield Road (please see downloadable PDF on the right). There are three designated disabled parking bays and level access from the car park  next to the theatre which is accessed off Fairfield Road.

 

Before 5pm on weekdays, the Fairfield Road car park is often full due to commuter parking, but more spaces become available after 5pm.  Please note: outside the theatres in Fairfield Road there are double yellow lines. Alternative pay car parks, Townfield and West End, can be found near Chelmsford station.

 

Fairfield Road car park charges

 
•Evening charge: A £1.00 evening charge is valid for the period from 5.00pm – 11.59pm, from Monday – Sunday inclusive.
•Sunday charges: A £2.50 charge is valid for the period from 5.00am - 11.59pm on Sunday (or £1.00 after 5pm).

Blue badge parking
There are three designated disabled parking bays and level access from the car park next to the theatre which is accessed off Fairfield Road. Please note: there are double yellow lines outside the Theatres in Fairfield Road.

 

Essential companion scheme (ECS)
Patrons who need additional assistance to access theatres’ services may be eligible for a free of charge ticket for their companion.  To register fill in an essential companion scheme form which can be downloaded from the links on the right-hand side.

 

Wheelchair spaces
These must be booked in advance. The Civic Theatre has four standard wheelchair spaces. The Cramphorn has provision for one standard wheelchair.

 

Hearing facilities
We have 50 infra red headsets available. Some of these can be accessed by switching your hearing aid to the 'T' position. They can also be used with the new digital hearing aid.  It is possible to book a headset in advance on 01245 606505 or these can be collected from the Duty Manager on arrival.


Guide dogs are welcome and, if you wish, we can look after your dog whilst you enjoy the show.


Cloakroom
The cloakroom is situated next to the disabled toilets to the left of the Civic Theatre foyer. A number of the coat hooks are accessible to wheelchair users.


Payphone
There is a payphone, accessible to wheelchair users, in the Civic Theatre foyer next to the cloakroom.
 

Infra red hearing headsets are available in both auditoriums.


Signed performances
Our signer stands stage right (audience/house left). Please inform the box office when booking tickets to ensure you are booked into the most appropriate seats.


Audio described performances
A variety of performances are described for those with a visual impairment. Information on audio described performances is circulated by the RNIB and all the Talking Newspapers in Essex.
 

Captioned performances
Some performances are captioned for deaf and hard of hearing patrons. Please inform the box office at the time of booking if you wish to use the captioning service, as we may be able to help you select seats which will optimise your view of the captioning screens, which are located at either side of the stage.
 

Seating plans
Braille and large print seating plans are available from the box office.
 

Portable hearing loop
