It’s funny how things surprise you. We’re performing Awful Auntie in Birmingham this week at The Alexandra Theatre, just a stone’s throw from The Old Rep where the BSC was based for twenty-three years, and throughout the whole of the first day I couldn’t shake off the feeling I was in a dream. It would be hard to convince the 26-year-old who started the company in 1992, that thirty-two years later he would be in Birmingham performing at the great Alex theatre. It was like time-travelling through all those years and wondering how on earth it had all worked out that I could be walking along Station Street on my way to do a lovely show. With just three weeks left of the tour, it was a dreamlike reminder of an incredible journey.
