It’s not often you get the chance to perform in two West End theatres on the same day. I’ve been acting in Barmy Britain, with the incomparable Anthony Spargo, at the Apollo Theatre for the last month, during which our production of Gangsta Granny arrived at the Harold Pinter. When we had finished Barmy’s Saturday morning show, I wandered down to the Pinter and was quickly persuaded to play the policeman in Granny (which I’d performed a couple of times at the Garrick last summer when Granny had its West End debut). It’s quite the most surreal experience to find yourself on a new stage, in a part you’ve not played for a year, speaking to actors you’ve never performed with, before a packed matinee audience. It all went remarkably smoothly and was a joyous way to say goodbye to Granny’s second run in the West End. Thank you Emma Matthews for having the great idea! – and to our fantastic cast who have been a dream to work with. Long live Granny!
