Today we performed our two shows at Big Feastival and it marked a turning point for the company. After eighteen months on the rollercoaster, it finally feels like we’ve reached a smoother part of the ride. Both our West End shows enjoyed their runs as planned and our show on the Thames and the two national tours continue to enjoy huge success. It’s really quite staggering to think we’ve survived such a tumultuous period for British theatre, during which we’ve completed three car park tours; three national tours, which have performed in theatres, castles, gardens, fields, piers and outdoor venues like the mighty Minack; we have created and staged two world premieres, one of which went into the West End and one of which we hope will be running on the Thames for years to come; we enjoyed our second West End season with a story by David Walliams; and it’s fair to say we’ve enjoyed every single minute of it. It’s highlighted just how special this profession is to us all – and how much it’s needed by the British public. We couldn’t have done it without the financial support of the Government and we are grateful to the Arts Council for giving us the chance to present live theatre across the country in such an extraordinary time. I also couldn’t imagine doing it without my actor colleague Morgan Philpott, who has been an amazing theatrical partner from the very beginning to the very end. Here we are at Feastival celebrating the end of Barmy Britain – Part Five! What a ride it’s been!
